Harvey Gunson

June 2, 1934 - June 3, 2023

Harvey Parker Gunson, 89, of Pembroke Pines, passed away June 3, 2023.  Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he made his career as a Sargeant and Detective for the New York City Police Department, Chief of Police at the College of William and Mary and Chief of Police at Florida International University. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the area of Army Intelligence and was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Harvey was a very private man. If you wanted to know the cause of his death, he would have told you that it was none of your business. If you asked his wife, Patricia, she would tell you he had multiple myeloma, but not to tell anyone. Athough his prognosis was dire, he battled on, lived his life and survived several years beyond expectations. He would not want his obituary to suggest he lost a battle with cancer. By his reckoning, cancer could not win and could only hope for a draw. And so it was. Harvey hated losing.

Harvey enjoyed traveling, fishing and the horse track. He loved his wife, Patricia of 65 years, admired and inspired his children and his beloved cats Mousey and Zizzy.

He will be greatly missed by those he loved and those who loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you cancel your subscription to Comcast :)

Harvey was preceded in death by son Dennis, and recently deceased son Christopher (Robin). Harvey is survived by his devoted wife Patricia, daughter Patricia, brother Martin and grandchildren Devin and Keara Rose.

A funeral Mass of the Resurrection with Military Honors will be held at St. David Catholic Church, 3900 S. University Drive, Davie, on Thursday, June 8, at 11:00 AM.  The Mass may be livestreamed at Facebook.com/Landmarkfuneralhome.

HINTERKOPF, JANE R., 85, of Miami Shores and Hollywood, FL, passed away on April 25, 2025. One of three children, she was born to Karl and Lucille Rehm on March 21, 1940. Jane was raised in Miami, Florida, where she lived her entire life, graduating from Jackson High School. She cherished her time at her “mountain house” in Weaverville, NC, creating lasting memories there with family and friends. Jane was a devoted member of the Miami Shores Presbyterian Church and an active participant in the Heidi Hewes Chapter of the Woman’s Cancer Association through the University of Miami, PEO, and the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. She played hand and foot canasta weekly with her card buddies and enjoyed family domino nights. A gifted Southern cook, Jane loved preparing beautiful luncheons and hosting elegant dinner parties. One of her proudest accomplishments was organizing the very first Holiday Walk for the Heidi Hewes Chapter in 1991—an annual event that continues to thrive thanks to the wonderful support it receives. Jane is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ernest Hinterkopf of Hollywood, FL; daughter Joy M. McCurdy (Dan) of Hollywood, FL; sons Eric Masse (Jen) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Karl Hinterkopf of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren Emillia Hoffman (Paul), Timothy McCurdy (Jess), Tyler McCurdy (Mollie), Cara Jane McCurdy, Ashton Masse, and Logan Masse; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Judy R. Knight of Orlando, FL, and her brother Charles E. Rehm (Annette) of Merritt Island, FL. She spent her final years in the exceptional care of Racquel Kelly and Jennifer Watson. The family is deeply grateful for their compassion and devotion. Jane will be dearly missed by her family, who meant everything to her—and she to them— as well as by all who knew and loved her. She now rests peacefully in God’s arms, likely enjoying endless games of hand and foot canasta with the friends who passed before her. Until we meet again. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Baranowski, a devoted father, proud Marine, and a man of quiet strength and deep faith, who left this world peacefully at the age of 92. Frank was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served his country with honor, courage, and unwavering discipline. His years in uniform shaped not only his life, but the values he instilled in those who knew him—integrity, service, and resilience. He was a widower, having shared a long and loving marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia. Since her passing, Frank faithfully visited her grave every Sunday at the National Cemetery, rain or shine, always saying quiet prayer. Their bond remained unbroken even in death. A devout Catholic, Frank attended Mass regularly and found solace in his faith. He was a gentle soul—kind, steady, and humble. Those who knew him remember a man who never spoke loudly, but whose quiet actions spoke volumes. His warmth and generosity touched many. Frank leaves behind a proud legacy in his five surviving children, Patty Ann, Frank, Kathleen, Robert, & Peter; each of whom carries forward his values and love. They were his angels, now he is theirs. His soul is resting at peace, reunited with his beloved Patricia. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 6th, 11:30am at Nativity Catholic Church with interment to follow at The South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth on Monday, June 9th at 1:00pm beside his wife. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank’s memory to a veterans’ support organization of your choice.

Adalberto “Al” Parra, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, April, 20th, 2025 at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of love, curiosity, and devotion to family. Born the eldest of seven children in Brownsville, Texas, Al’s strong work ethic emerged early when he began delivering groceries for his father’s independent grocery store. Later, his father took a job with Pan American Airlines in Brownsville, and when the company ceased local operations, Al’s parents chose to relocate the family to Miami, Florida. In Miami, Al began his professional journey, first with Hot Shops, delivering food to planes at Miami International Airport. In 1956, he joined Eastern Airlines, starting in the mailroom and transitioning into the accounting department. His career was briefly interrupted in 1958 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, proudly serving for two years, primarily stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he resumed his position at Eastern Airlines as a production planner and later joined the International Machinists Union. Following Eastern Airlines’ closure in 1991 after an extended machinist strike, Al embarked on a successful ten-year career as a Cell Site Field Engineer with Cingular Wireless, now part of AT&T. Throughout his life, Al was defined by his boundless curiosity and diverse passions. He embraced photography in his twenties and later discovered a lifelong enthusiasm for amateur ham radio while serving in the Army. Al became deeply involved in the ham radio community, even operating his own 2-meter cell site in Turnberry Isles, Hallandale, and serving as president of both the Eastern Airlines, and the Hollywood Amateur Radio Clubs. In the late 1970s and early 80s, Al eagerly embraced the emerging computer technology. He shared this enthusiasm with his son, Eddie, spending countless hours exploring and mastering their first home computer, a Radio Shack TRS-80. His interest in technology never waned, and he remained actively engaged with advancements until his passing. Above all else, Al was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Married for 52 years to Rosa Vela Parra, he considered his sons and grandchildren his greatest treasures and took immense pride in each of their accomplishments. His love and devotion to family remain his most enduring legacy. Adalberto is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa; son, Eduardo “Eddie” Manuel (Barbara) of Redmond, WA; youngest sibling, Cesar Oscar (Evangeline) of San Antonio, TX; stepsister, Alicia Amalia Parra Reyes (Javier) of Georgetown, TX; seven cherished grandchildren—Jonathan Parra, Ashley Parra-Presson, Malia Ava Parra, Alanna Liv Parra, Mason Carter Parra, Tristan Devin Parra, and Blake Olivia Parra; two great-granddaughters, Rayne Parra and Alessia Presson; one great-grandson, Raziel Parra, an aunt, Minerva Cisneros Maldonado of Brownsville, Tx., and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents: Adalberto Parra, Sr., and Irene Cisneros Parra, 3 sons, Adalberto “Albert,” III, William Patrick, Carlos Antonio, his sisters, Lucia Parra-Owens, Irene Parra-Castetter, his brothers, Andres, Ernesto, and Ruben. There will be a Requiem Mass celebrated at Nativity Catholic Church, 5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood, Fl. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10:30am. Following the Mass, there will be an inurnment at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida, Magnolia Section.
