Nelson R. Townsend
October 2, 1924 - September 23, 2022

Nelson Townsend. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Nelson would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of offer you cannot refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. He is ok with this arrangement as there is unlimited ice cream.
Nelson was born on October 2, 1924 in White Sulphur Springs, NY to Roy and Vye Townsend and older sister Lila. Nelson passed peacefully on September 23, 2022 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Nelson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mae Louise. Left to cherish his memory is his son; Nelson Lee, grandson Eric Townsend (Marnie) and great-grandson Dale Townsend. Grandson Kevin Townsend. Daughter Teri Studiale and her husband Jack Studiale. Grandchildren; Christine Leffel (Bryan Leffel), Joseph Studiale, and Kimberly Dreyfus (Derek Dreyfus). Great-grandchildren; Samantha and Alex Leffel, Courtney and Joseph Studiale, and Presley, Harper, and Tinsley Dreyfus.
Nelson was a World War 2 veteran, collector of Hess trucks and kind to everyone he came across. He had a life-long love affair with ice cream, dancing, fast cars, airplanes and making his family smile. Whether he was sneaking his grandchildren handfuls of candy or watching his great-grandchildren jump into his pool for hours on end. He was happy. He was the only one stealthy enough to get away with bites of Thanksgiving turkey before Mae would find out. He was a lover of all animals but particularly, dogs. Miss T, Precious, and Blitzen to name a few. Nelson never met a stranger or would never hesitate to help one. His kind and compassionate nature will be missed.
Instead of flowers, do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a stranger. Just like Nelson would have done.
Graveside Service will be Monday, September 26, 2022, 10:00am at Forest Lawn South Cemetery.
