Barbara Ann Scanlon Loughman
October 22, 1944 - April 9, 2026

Barbara Ann Scanlon Loughman, a devoted mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 81, at her home in Hollywood, Florida.
Born in South Boston, Massachusetts, Barbara was the beloved daughter of Anna and John Scanlon and the younger sister of her only brother, Johnny. She was raised in the Catholic faith, which remained the cornerstone of her life. Her deep devotion to God guided her actions, her love for others, and her unwavering strength through life’s joys and challenges.
Barbara was a woman of kindness, warmth, and quiet grace. She dedicated her life to her family, always placing their needs above her own. She found joy in attending Mass and spending time with her family. She also took great pleasure in caring for her orchids. Her home was a place of comfort, faith, and unconditional love.
Barbara met her husband, Michael, when she was 16. As she expressed it, “It was love at first sight.” Michael enlisted in the Marines and served his country in Vietnam. Barbara went on to graduate from Boston College and became a teacher. By the grace of God, Michael returned safely from Vietnam, and they were married, immediately beginning their life together. They eventually settled in Puerto Rico, where they adopted their daughter, Lori Ann. Later, they moved to Hollywood, joined Nativity Parish, and several years afterward were blessed with an adopted son, John Paul. Barbara was a stay-at-home mother and tutored math to many high school students in Hollywood from her home.
She is survived by her loving children, Lori (Daren Darnell) and John (Krystl), and her cherished grandchildren, Aiden and Alyssa. She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Michael G. Loughman.
A faithful Catholic, Barbara found great peace in prayer and the sacraments. As a Eucharistic minister, she and her husband brought comfort and prayer to many of the sick in their parish for as long as she was able. Ironing linens for the church was a task in which she took great pride. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with the Lord and held in eternal rest. As it is written, “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
A Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood, Florida, on May 15 at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the National Cemetery in Wellington at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Barbara’s legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in all who knew her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.”
