Barbara Ann Scanlon Loughman
October 22, 1944 - April 9, 2026

Barbara Ann Scanlon Loughman, a devoted mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2026, at the age of 81 at home in Hollywood, Florida.
Born in South Boston, Massachusetts, Barbara was the beloved daughter of Anna & John Scanlon and little sister to her favorite and only brother, Johnny She was raised in the Catholic faith, which remained the cornerstone of her life. Her deep devotion to God guided her actions, her love for others, and her unwavering strength through life’s joys and challenges.
Barbara was a woman of kindness, warmth, and quiet grace. She dedicated her life to her family, always placing their needs above her own. She found joy in attending Mass, spending time with her family, caring for her orchids and her home was a place of comfort, faith, and unconditional love.
Barbara met her husband Michael of 54 years when she was 16. As she put it, “It was love at first sight!”. Michael enlisted in the Marines and went willingly to serve his country in Vietnam. She went on to graduate from Boston College to become a teacher. By the grace of God, Michael returned from Vietnam. They were married and immediately began their life. They eventually ended up in Puerto Rico. It was there they adopted Lori Ann. Eventually, they moved to Hollywood, joined Nativity parish and several years later were blessed with an adopted son John Paul. Barbara was a stay-at-home mom and tutored Math to many high school students in Hollywood at her home.
She is survived by her loving children, Lori (Daren Darnell) and John (Krystl), her cherished grandchildren, Aiden & Alyssa. She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Michael G. Loughman.
A faithful Catholic, Barbara found great peace in prayer and the sacraments. As a Eucharistic Minister, she and her husband brought comfort and prayer to many of the sick at her parish for as long as she was able. Ironing linens for the church was something she took pride in. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with the Lord and held in eternal rest. As it is written, “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
A Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood, FL on May 15th at 10 am followed by a burial at The National Cemetery in Wellington at 1 pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Barbara’s legacy of love, faith, and compassion will live on in all who knew her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.”
