Elizabeth Amey

Author name

January 7, 1931 - December 11, 2022

Elizabeth (Betty) Amey passed away peacefully on December 11, 2022 in her Hollywood Florida home at age 91 with her daughter holding her hand.
Betty was much loved and is survived by her two children, daughter Patricia Amey of Hollywood, Florida, son Richard Amey of Burlington, North Carolina, along with grandchildren Melissa Hunt and Michael Amey of North Carolina, great grandchildren Noah and Lucas, sister Violet Yentzer of Spring Hill, Florida and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Catherine Woodmender of Philadelphia.
Betty was born on January 7, 1931 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Leonard and Catherine DeWald. She graduated from John Bartram High School in 1949. She was a talented executive secretary and held office positions at the Franklin Institute and at Keystone Auto Club in Philadelphia.
For many years, Betty was an active member at the Woodland Baptist Church in southwest Philadelphia. Her love for children led her to teach Sunday School and facilitate youth groups. Betty was very creative and enjoyed playing hymns on the piano, arts and crafts, and cross-stitch. She made numerous gifts and Christmas ornaments. She had an appreciation for traveling and sightseeing which led her to take many weekend vacations.
In 1986 Betty moved to South Florida and lived independently in a studio apartment until 2017. She then moved to the Presidential Place assisted living facility where she was lovingly referred to as “Queen” by her caregivers. She was strong and independent, wanting to do things herself and she let you know it!  Even when her health was failing, we could not keep her out of trouble. Although she experienced many falls, some very serious, she bounced back so many times that she was nicknamed the “Phoenix” by her hospice nurse. Betty forged her own legacy as a tenacious warrior.
Loved by many, Betty was thought of as adorable. She loved vanilla ice cream, chocolates, hot tea in a fancy cup and saucer, roses and the color pink. She was pleasant, funny, and laughed often.  She will truly be missed.
Visitation is Saturday January 7, 2023 (Betty’s 92nd birthday) from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 3:00 pm at Landmark Funeral Home, 4200 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood FL 33021.
