Iva Tyson was born September 1 st ,1934 on the island of Nevis, British West Indies, to Kezia Dore and Henry Thompson of Barnes Ghaut village, Nevis.
After completing Primary school, Iva started training to become a seamstress. Not long after, she met the love of her life, Milton “Bear”Tyson, Whom she married on April 2 nd ,1959. This union produced two children, Arlene and Andy. Iva migrated to St. Croix, USVI with her late husband, in 1965 and was later joined by their children in 1970.
Together, Iva and her husband worked hard, raised their children and became productive members of their community. Iva soon joined the church family of  Altona Baptist Church and in time the entire family became actively involved in the church’s ministry.
Her children remember her as a faithful and devoted mother, who encouraged them to work hard to pursue their goals and most of all, to serve the Lord. Iva enjoyed sewing, cooking, especially, baking, and often hosted dinners in her home for family and friends
She was an active member of the GAP women’s prayer group, St. Croix chapter. She frequently visited the Herbert Grigg Home for the Aged, with other church sisters, to share the word of God and pray and worship with the residents.
