Jocelyne Denis, lovingly known as “JoJo,” was born on May 28, 1950, in Haiti to Marianne “Talatanne” Tatasse and Anthony Denis. She peacefully departed this life on May 11, 2026, at her home in Hollywood, Florida, at the age of 75.
Jocelyne completed high school before immigrating to the United States in 1971 in search of greater opportunities and a better future for her family. Intelligent and ambitious, she was fluent in several languages, including Portuguese, French, Spanish, and Italian. She used these skills to help advance herself professionally while navigating new opportunities in the United States. Like many strong Haitian women of her generation, she built her life through resilience, sacrifice, determination, and hard work.
She began working in a factory making hats before dedicating many years of her life to the healthcare industry, where she remained committed to caring for others until her retirement in 2016.
Known for her intelligence, confidence, and unforgettable personality, Jocelyne was often described as the “brainy child.” She was proud, independent, and carried herself with strength and dignity.
Those close to her knew not to push her buttons — especially if someone spoke badly about her.
While many respected the sharpness of her words, those who truly knew her understood the softness behind them.
Beneath her tough exterior was a loving woman with a caring heart who deeply valued family, loyalty, and respect.
Jocelyne took great pride in her children, always making sure they were well cared for, clean, and presentable.
She enjoyed traveling to different continents, experiencing new cultures, and embracing life’s moments.
One of her favorite sayings was, “Enjoy the moment,” a reflection of the way she chose to live her life despite life’s challenges.
She also adored her beloved cat, Chiquita, a cherished companion who brought her comfort, joy, and companionship throughout the years.
Jocelyne leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Evens Denis, Dr. Daphne Denis, and Woodley Baucicault; her beloved grandchildren Christian Denis , Dr. Elajah Denis, Jaden Occean, Cye Denis, Cobe Denis, Blaze Baucicault, and Ace Baucicault; her cherished great-grandson, Bryce Denis; her dear siblings Eugenie Eugene, Jean Robert Souffrant, Frantz Souffrant, and Margarette Pierre-Louis; her cherished nieces and nephews Pascale Eugene, Djeddarah Souffrant, Frantz Souffrant Jr., Jean Rony Souffrant, Jeff Souffrant, Katiana Turenne, and Ithamar Turenne; along with extended family, lifelong friends, and a loving community who will forever treasure her strength, humor, wisdom, and unforgettable spirit.
Though she is no longer physically with us, the love, lessons, laughter, and memories she shared so freely will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. –Psalm 23
