Biggie, as he was affectionately known, is survived and missed by Olive, his wife of 66 years; his children, Pauline (Steve) Towne of Coral Springs, FL, Michael (Anna) Lee of Ocala, FL, Sharon Lee of Pembroke Pines, FL and Janet Lee of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren Sean and Scott Lee, Christina Towne and Kaitlyn and Taylor Bliss. He is predeceased by his brother, Herbert (Sonny) Lee of Peterborough, England. He also leaves behind five sisters: Shirley (Eddie) Chai Chong of Jamaica, Charmaine Lam (New Jersey), Kay (Cedric) Chai Chong, Carol (Gerry) Moosie, and Sandra (Paul) Lue; two brothers, Richard (Myrna) Lee, Michael (Karen) Lee of Toronto, Canada and various nieces and nephews.
Oswald was born September 20, 1931, in Kingston, Jamaica to Charlie and Gladys Lee. He graduated from St. George’s College in 1948. In 1958, he met and married Olive Gill and together they welcomed four children, Pauline, Michael, Sharon and Janet. Oswald worked at various professions including as a manager for a car dealership, a truck driver and then eventually in 1960, as the chief clerk at Bernard Lodge Estates. He worked there for 11 years while also pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a racehorse trainer. His lucky break came in 1971 when two sporting owners and entrepreneurs persuaded him to train horses fulltime. By 1975, he was named champion trainer of the year at Caymanas Park, breaking records for number of races won and total amount of monies earned. In 1977, the family migrated to Florida where Oswald continued to train racehorses.
Oswald was a generous man who helped others whenever he could. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also an outdoorsman-hunting and fishing whenever he got the chance to. An avid mahjong player, he taught us the game. Many a late night was spent filled with laughter as we banged tiles on the table. We will always remember him as a quiet, kind man who instilled in us the value of hard work, perseverance and determination to succeed in life.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 11.00am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 5601 South Flamingo Rd, Southwest Ranches, FL 33330. Rev. Dariel Fong will officiate the ceremony. Condolences can be sent to https://www.landmarkfuneralhome.com
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Accent Care hospice and his nurse, Tahimi, for her kindness and compassionate care during the last year of his life and always being there when we needed her.
