Norma Brenda (Bluesten) Deyo

September 27, 1944 - January 2, 2024

Norma Deyo passed away at the age of 79 on January 2, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Born in Plainfield, NJ, Norma moved to South Florida as a young child and grew up in Hollywood, FL until 1960 when her family moved to Hallandale.   As a youth she attended Hollywood Central Elementary and Olsen Middle School in Dania Beach. She is a graduate of South Broward High School.   Upon her marriage to Lt. Col. Charles “Chic” Deyo Jr. in December 1970, at the South Pacific Polynesian Restaurant and Gardens, she moved to Hollywood where she lived until her passing.    One of Norma’s first jobs was as a proofreader for The Hollywood Sun Tattler where she worked her first job in journalism.  Norma was the eldest daughter of Peter Bluesten who founded The Hallandale Digest newspaper. She would eventually join her family’s newspaper. 
She delivered a very memorable speech at the grand opening of Peter Bluesten Park, named for her father (a pioneer in youth sports), in September 2019.   Norma is remembered for her quick wit, devout faith, and charming humor. A longtime resident of Hollywood, she is beloved by her family, neighbors and friends.   Norma Deyo is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Kate Bluesten, her husband, Charles “Chic” Deyo Jr., her sister, Gloria B. Martin and her stepson Donald Deyo.  She is survived by her brother, Daniel Bluesten, step daughters, Beverly Binger and Shirley Lombard, her nieces, Becky Rice and Jeannie Spano and nephews, Matthew Bluesten and Michael Messier.
Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church on January 11, 2024 at 10:30am Followed by Burial at Forrest Lawn South Cemetery at 12:00pm.
